Audrey Plaza knew that Megalopolis was high camp but I'm not sure anyone else did.
#Her character is literally named Wow Platinum#Anyway that's kind of why the movie succeeds as high camp#Because it's a whole lot of straight men taking it very very seriously and one queer woman camping it up.#Poor Nathalie Emanuel might as well have been a manakin for all her character had to do. No dig on her just the shit writing#Wow platinum#aubrey plaza#megalopolis#post o' mine

A LONG AWAITED EXPANSION
As certain contestants finished the My Immortal challenge shockingly early, we have decided to add to the summer's competition!
We are therefore introducing the summer 2024 writing competition parts 2 and 3!
Part 2: I'm So Smart
In the spirit of a trend in the 2000's where a small set of characters the author liked, such as the protagonist and his (slightly less smart so he's not threatened) love interest, or the protagonists and his cool (but slightly less smart so he's not threatened) friends, and so on. The rest of the world was filled with awed peasants who were shocked, shocked I tell you, to learn the earth’s not flat (our protagonist brilliantly demonstrates it’s not, using the sun and math).
The smart protagonist, his foolish, sheep-like peers, and the world at large are characterized by a few characteristics your fic should have:
He is always happy to explain how, exactly, you’re wrong
STEM trumps humanities. You don’t have to know anything about physics yourself, but your protagonist proved Einstein was right about time dilation when he was six and you should have that in a throwaway line.
The world is solved by logic: for everything there is a logical explanation
Characters are easily defeated/awed/wowed by science. No character fails to be persuaded by Logic. If they pretend to be, they’re a tool and should be treated as such.
Part 3: Welcome to my sex dungeon, I have fifty of them and they’re decorated in shades of gray
Inspired by a certain author, write a deeply erotic and provocative AU.
Optional requirements:
A sex contract. You may or may not have a scene dedicated to the characters discussing terms and legalities.
A complete disregard for canon. Harry Potter is a 40-year-old Italian plumber named Mario, and Draco is Luigi, they must fend off that seductive Luna Lovegood-Princess Peach fusion’s seductive wiles so they can be with each other.
However, to counteract the above, characters must retain ‘vaguepost’ style basic traits about their character such that everyone obviously knows who the character is even if he’s now called Henry Pitter. Drake has platinum blonde hair and sneers a lot for some reason. Henry has messy hair and glasses.
A reverent respect for and yet scandalous treatment of common modern sex toys/sexual acts such as dildos, handcuffs, roleplaying, and so on and so forth. These are considered very shocking and novel items/ideas that no one in their lives has ever thought of before.
Sign up here, and submit your works here!

Hey everybody! I'm a pro battler, currently in my 'on' season after taking an extended break, although tight at the moment I'm at home.
I tend to go by a lot of different names for personal reasons, but you can call me Laser! If we include my break, I've been battling for TWENTY YEARS THIS YEAR (wow!) but honestly I've been around trainers and battle-trained 'mon my entire life.
I'd love to connect with people here, whether for battling tips, advice for pokemon in the home, or anything else!
I have/had a LOT of pokemon (I ended up opening a preserve/ranch with my S/O with our prize money for the pokemon that didn't want to be released into the wild or become a housepet at the end of our journeys, so please rest at ease that everybody is being taken care of!) so I can answer questions about most any types.
I'm Hoenn native, and my Blaziken is my best friend. I've taken the gym challenge in: Hoenn, Sinnoh, Johto, Kanto, and Unova, so that's where my knowledge lies. I'm not very familiar with fairy types, sorry!
At home, feel free to ask about any of my 'mon! I've got a bunch, so don't feel shy about asking!
And now I have Sponge Cake the Feebas as a non battling mon (atm!) I'll see if he wants to evolve and maybe enter him in battles or contests, but it's definitely too early to force him into anything.
Newest Ranch Arrivals:
Popstar the Sneasler
Bokeh the Metagross
Amanda the Aerodactyl
Michael the Flareon
Custard the Lillipup (just hatched!!!)
((ooc stuff under the cut!))
(If any of my backstory doesn't fit your blog's canon, I am A-OK with saying that we somehow connected internets through a spatial rift!)
I am totally and fully okay with 'is the picture cute?' style blogs interacting! In fact, I encourage it!
I have memory issues, so I apologize if I don't recognize your blog or remember where you are in your storyline
The games that are canon to Laser's life are Ruby, Platinum, SoulSilver, and Black! I'm definitely counting other games as having 'happened' but Laser did not live through them, and only sort of knows what went down.
Laser has defeated the Elite 4 in those games, but takes pains to disguise itself in each new region it takes the challenge in, to avoid too much publicity. However, after beating the league, it doesn't care to maintain the disguise, leading to being kind of a famous cryptid type character.
Because of this, it will be cagey about its life, but may let things slip accidentally!
As a side note, I want to play the emotional ramifications of the events of those games somewhat seriously! Laser was in therapy for a good long while, both because of said events and also a tragedy that occurred at some point which it was struggling to cope with.
I don't wanna expound too much on its backstory yet, but I will keep record of anything discovered here for ease of access to newcomers! Feel free to poke a bit at it, but please keep in mind it will react like a real person!
pelipper mail is off while Laser is traveling, but on while at home, magic anons are always off, but musharna mail? I think is crazy funny so that is ON. Mystery gift is tentatively on, will make a concrete decision once I catch the vibe better. Union Circle is sooooo on!
BACKSTORY UNLOCKED:
-Has serious beef with Giovanni and Ghetsis, but seems to give the other teams wiggle room...
-Knows Maxie well enough that he calls it out on its bullshit and bad habits
-big thing happened sometime between leaving kanto and going to unova
-makes occasional trips to the Distortion World, but is hesitant to speak on that
-started its journey early, back when ten years old was the standard
-Someone named Thomas lives in a cave on preserve grounds
CURRENT PLOT: Old Wounds!

Megalopolis ending spoilers
Okay so I think the most...The Most moment for me was when Jon Voight's character, who was almost tricked into resigning as President of the Bank but who then had a heart attack and was deposed as President of the Bank, is lying in bed, and Aubrey Plaza's character, who is named Wow Platinum in a movie where everyone else's name is Roman bc AMERICA IS LIKE ROME, well, also Wow Platinum seduced someone in a sex scene that is honestly indescribable into doing this plan, anyway, Wow Platinum comes in and Jon Voight's character goes "I have a boner because she is sexy". And the boner is VERY prominent but no one questions it because it was earlier established that Jon Voight has an enormous hog. Anyway he says this in the dry monotone everyone in the movie except Aubrey Plaza delivers every line in and no one questions it.
Then he pulls back the covers to reveal that his boner is actually a CROSSBOW. And he uses it to kill Wow Platinum and shoot his son in the ass.
This is more or less the end of the movie's conflict. It's kind of surprising how quickly it ends? After this everyone who was previously against Adam Driver's character just kind of goes "I am going to give all of my money to him" in a montage. And he gives a speech and then he builds his perfect utopian city and everything is good now and I guess he's now God-Emperor. We see people gliding away on the only Caesar Catalina invention we see in detail, which is a moving walkway that will take you to A Park in less than three minutes. But the city is gold and alive now and has vertical towers people live on so it's better now. Nobody reacts much though bc again, the only character who doesn't react to everything with a dull, flat tone of voice is Wow Platinum, who is still dead, and lying on the floor, Cock Arrow still in her chest
Don't get that idea that Crazy Bullshit like that happening all the time makes it fun though, I was just bored bc again, everything's so flat. Not just the acting, but the cinematography is really flat, too, it's hard to believe Francis Ford Coppola made it. The movie does play with some interesting ideas about Creation and the like at times, but so much of it is just communicated by people citing quotes and saying Great Ideas at each other.
If one scene sums up the movie, it's one where they're driving in the rain and we see a statue of Lady Justice falling apart in the rain & breaking into pieces. A bit heavy handed but I get it. But then the scene goes on showing us more statues falling apart and. I get it, actually?
I never would've anticipated a movie this cornball earnest from Francis Ford Coppola of all people. Like look at the end screen (screencap from Twitter, I'm not a monster who took out her phone in the theater)
I want to like this movie so much more than I did. Though I did like it more than two of the people in the theater with me, who walked out halfway through, leaving just me and one other person to experience...this
In conclusion

Everytime We Touch
Written By: Stuart MacKillop, Peter Risavy & Maggie Reilly
Artist: Cascada
Released: 2005
The hit single by Eurodance group Cascada, “Everytime We Touch” was released in the United States on August 16, 2005, reaching number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remaining on the charts for twenty-five weeks in territories around the world. It was also certified platinum in the US. It was written, composed, and produced by the band's DJs, Manian and Yanou; however, the only writing/composing credits were given to Maggie Reilly, Stuart Mackilliop, and Peter Risavy, as the song borrows its chorus from Maggie Reilly’s 1992 single of the same name.
[Verse 1] I still hear your voice when you sleep next to me I still feel your touch in my dream (In my dream) Forgive me, my weakness, but I don't know why Without you, it's hard to survive [Chorus] 'Cause every time we touch, I get this feeling And every time we kiss, I swear I could fly Can't you feel my heart beat fast? I want this to last Need you by my side 'Cause every time we touch, I feel the static And every time we kiss, I reach for the sky Can't you hear my heart beat so? I can't let you go Want you in my life [Instrumental Post-Chorus] [Verse 2] Your arms are my castle, your heart is my sky They wipe away tears that I cry (That I cry) The good and the bad times, we've been through them all You make me rise when I fall [Chorus] 'Cause every time we touch, I get this feeling And every time we kiss, I swear I could fly Can't you feel my heart beat fast? I want this to last Need you by my side 'Cause every time we touch, I feel the static And every time we kiss, I reach for the sky Can't you hear my heart beat so? I can't let you go Want you in my life [Instrumental Post-Chorus] [Outro] 'Cause every time we touch, I get this feeling And every time we kiss, I swear I could fly Can't you feel my heart beat fast? I want this to last Need you by my side

Iris
Written By: John Rzeznik
Artist: The Goo Goo Dolls
Released: 1998
“Iris” was written for the 1998 film City of Angels starring Nicolas Cage. John Rzeznik explained: “When I wrote it, I was thinking about the situation of the Nicolas Cage character in the movie. This guy is completely willing to give up his own immortality, just to be able to feel something very human. And I think, ‘Wow! What an amazing thing it must be like to love someone so much that you give up everything to be with them.’ That’s a pretty heavy thought.” “Iris” eventually became one of the Goo Goo Dolls' biggest and most recognizable hits, eclipsing the movie it was written for.
[Verse 1] And I'd give up forever to touch you 'Cause I know that you feel me somehow You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be And I don't wanna go home right now [Verse 2] And all I can taste is this moment And all I can breathe is your life And sooner or later, it's over I just don't wanna miss you tonight [Chorus] And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am [Instrumental] [Verse 3] And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming Or the moment of truth in your lies When everything feels like the movies Yeah, you bleed just to know you're alive [Chorus] And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am [Instrumental Break] [Chorus] And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am [Chorus] And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am [Outro] I just want you to know who I am I just want you to know who I am I just want you to know who I am

#Marco-Marathon | Transformers | Bayverse
Film Name: Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014); Production Studios: Paramount Pictures, Hasbro, Di Bonaventura Pictures, China Movie Channel, Ian Bryce Productions, October Pictures, Tom DeSanto/Don Murphy Production, Jiaflix Enterprises, Amblin Entertainment, Platinum Dunes; Director by: Michael Bay; Screenwriter: Ehren Kruger; Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz Beckham, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer; Genres: Science-fiction, Action, Adventure; Running Time: 2 hours 45 minutes
Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) is an over-the-top action movie by Michael Bay that tries to wow audiences with special effects but fails in plot and character development. Mark Wahlberg as the inventor Kad Jaeger tries to save the world from a new threat, but the nonsensical script and drag make the film tiresome. Even adding dinobots doesn't save the situation.
One star — spectacular, but empty, lacking emotional depth and significance
My rating:

Please, please, please see Megalopolis. There are line deliveries in that movie that you could never even dream of. Visually, it feels like you’re watching Attack of the Clones the entire time. Adam Driver begins the movie by stopping time and they never, ever explain how he can do that. Aubrey Plaza plays a character named “Wow Platinum”. Please see it.
#there’s also a face sitting scene like okay#sure#and every time Adam driver talks about his mission#it’s like directly to the audience and sounds like a metal gear monologue

If Cosmere characters played Terraria...
Previously, Stormlight characters played Stardew Valley. Now, let’s say the Cosmere characters all had access to the computer game Terraria. What would that be like?
1. Adolin: Very excited by all of the swords
Shallan: Adolin, love, you don’t have to carry around ALL of your new swords.
Adolin: I can’t leave any behind!!
2. Wayne: Very excited by all of the hats
Wax: Why are you fighting with the sparkle wand?? You HAVE the ice sword!
Wayne: Don’t ya see the wizard hat I’m wearing??
3. Steris: Takes care of chest organization & base building while Wax fights
Steris: And THIS chest is filled with all ingredients needed to make buff potions that lend bonuses to combat skills, whereas this chest contains ingredients that make buff potions related to defense or speed.
Steris: The appropriate crafting stations are right above as well.
Wax: T-That’s amazing!
4. Renarin: Keeps throwing himself into fights totally unprepared
Adolin: W-wait! Did you buff at all?
Renarin: (using a wooden bow against the Eye) Come again?
5. Sebarial: Spends all his money getting the best gear
Sabarial: Well, it took 50 platinum, but all of my gear is now “Warding.”
Palona: While you were doing that, I beat Skeletron.
Sabarian: Heeey, my strategy worked!
6. Szeth: Speedruns
Szeth: What is speedrunning?
Szeth: I simply killed all of the bosses immediately and in order.
7. Raoden: Builds ideal houses for all of the NPCs in their preferred biomes
Raoden: All the walls are bright colors! Everything is clean!
Raoden: And I dyed all my clothes orange immediately, of course.
8. Vivenna: Builds simple but effective homes for all NPCs
Vivenna: I also put all of the paintings away into boxes, where the colors won’t scare them.
Siri: Vivenna...
9. Denth: Puts all the NPCs in NPC prisons.
Denth: You know what I hate most about being a mercenary?
Denth: If you build tiny, prisonlike homes for all of your Villagers, people think your gameplay reflects your character.
Denth: Instead of it just being the simplest and most effective way of housing them all!
Tonk Fah: Hey, is it time to drop the Guide in lava yet?
Denth: Don’t mind him.
10. Kaladin: Protects the NPCs
Moash: Kaladin, please. They literally just respawn with new names if they die.
Kaladin: EDWIN, NO! STAY INSIDE--IT’S A BLOOD MOON!!
11. Vin: Gets a grappling hook as soon as she feasibly can
Vin: [soaring through the caverns]
Elend: (dying from fall damage for the 19th time): How do you do that so well???
12. Eshonai: Plays on the hardest difficulty
Eshonai: It’s the only way to experience everything the game has to offer.
Eshonai: I also play on the largest world!
Venli: The biomes literally just repeat.
Eshonai: So many new caves to explore!
13. Lift: Plays on the easiest difficulty
Lift: Because I’m just a little kid!
Wyndle: Y-You just SHREDDED the Destroyer!
14. Dalinar: Becomes deeply invested in the lore.
Dalinar: “You feel an evil presence watching you.”
Dalinar: ...
Dalinar: But what do those words mean?
15. Kelsier: Uses glitches
Kelsier: And by spawning a thousand ducks from this duck statue, I ensure that only the head of the Destroyer spawns! No probes at all!
Vin: Wow, how did you learn that?
Kelsier: There’s always another secret.

The Mosley Review: Megalopolis
The return of any legendary storyteller in cinema is always welcomed with eyes wide open. To see them return to the medium with a passion project that is all the more bold and different, is also a treat. Francis Ford Coppola is one of those living legends that to this day, his films are revered and studied in many a film school classroom. He now returns to the silver screen with a challenging and somewhat baffling fable/epic that is both gorgeous and almost indescribable. At the service level, it is a modern Roman tale of creation, capitilism, greed and debauchery located in the grand backdrop of New York City aptly named New Rome. Its quite brilliant and unrelenting in its depiction of honestly, our world as we know it. At a deeper layer, there was also a psychological level of mind-bending effects and how the world revolved or even worked around the central character. Does he have powers to stop time or are we passengers on a massive trip through an architect's mind? Like I said, its baffling and yet fascinating. The film was bonkers at times as it got convoluted in the middle of the political plots and noir style of reveals. If you're not focused on the story, you're gonna be lost and you may not have anything or anyone to pull you back in.
Adam Driver leads the story as the ever ambitious and creative architect Cesar Catilina and he was absolutely fantastic. He delivers every monologue with a shakespearean cadence and depth. It may seem like alot of word vomit from Cesar at times, but when you actually look at the subtext, he's quite inspiring even if he is almost detached from his own sense of humanity. There was a level of vulnerability that gets explored mid way through the film that defines the character and I loved seeing Adam expertly navigate the many directions the character goes through. Laurence Fishburne was fun and slick as the film's narrator and Cesar's driver, Fundi Romaine. Giancarlo Esposito was fantastic and boisterous as Mayor of New Rome, Franklyn Cicero. The rivalry between him and Cesar was the core of the film and I liked seeing their political game of tug of war. There is deeper layer to their rivalry that was pretty dark and somewhat doesn't get resolved in the most predictable fashion which was nice for a change. Natalie Emmanuel was outstanding as Cicero's daughter, Julia. I loved the rather quick turn from the debauchery that leads to the fascinating chemistry she develops with Cesar. The way the two of them connect was interesting and sparked the many questions of possible super powers in their dreamlike romance. Aubrey Plaza was great as the power hungry and greedy talk show host, Wow Platinum. You could see her fighting for relevance and how the desire for power can corrupt in the most absolutes. Shia LaBeouf gives and energetic, devilish and sometimes sinister performance as Cesar's extremely jealous cousin, Clodio Pulcher. He embodied the spoiled rich kid that never had to earn anything and just lives in that untouchable bubble. Its not until he finally has that bubble popped for him that he realizes that he needed to be more. Jon Voight was great as Cesar's wealthy uncle and Clodio's father, Hamilton Crassus III. The swiftness in which he goes from respected to a pariah was fascinating and had a somewhat hilarious and yet satisfying end.
The score by Osvaldo Golijov was grandiose, noir fueled and full of wonder in the best ways. The vast visuals of the future city of Megalopolis was punctuated by dreamlike sound and the more somber and romantic moments of the film were brought home by the noir sound of the saxophone. As I said before, the visuals in this film are stunning as its generous use of golden ambers and striking blacks was beautiful to witness on the IMAX screen. This film requires a lot of focus and can be absolutely confusing if you're not paying attention to what is being said. It doesn't reinvent the wheel per say, but it was a very unique take on Roman history and in essence how it repeats itself. This was a film that I had to sit with for a second to actually cobble together what I just watched. Its not for everyone and many will say it was boring or didn't make sense. All are are valid, but I will say that this is a film for the cinephiles of the world. Its an old school, high concept type of film that maybe in a few years, many will circle back to it and re-analyze. Let me know what you thought of the film or my review in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

Shiny Chaining circa 2010
I've been catching shinies with the poké radar in the gen IV Pokémon games for a long time now, and it's wild to think about how niche and mysterious the chaining process was for most of us back in the earlier days.
I've been reminiscing about this a lot on my own lately, so why not reminisce together?
The concept of chaining has appeared in a handful of Pokémon games since its introduction in Diamond and Pearl, but wow did things get off to a cryptic start! The only in-game hints in Diamond and Pearl that the chaining mechanic even existed -- at least so far as I was aware -- were 1) a few lines of nonchalant NPC dialog and 2) the Trainer Counter pokétch app.
In regards to the NPCs, if you visit Sandgem Town post-game and speak to Lucas or Dawn, they'll ask you how things are going with the poké radar and then casually drop that the grass patches that shake farthest away from you will have the highest chances of containing consecutive repeat pokémon. Neat, you think. Something to keep in mind if you want to save time seeking out a particular nature or doing some EV training or something.
But then if you pick up the Trainer Counter pokétch app too, you're like, okay, there must be something else to encountering the same species of pokémon over and over again in a row, because why else would the game be putting this much effort into tracking it?
Naming this the "Trainer Counter" didn't make anything clearer, unfortunately.
But the really intriguing bit happens when Lucas or Dawn -- and again, this is expressed to you in just one or two lines of optional post-game dialog with a character you may not be particularly inspired to check up on -- makes an offhand comment about a "sparkling" grass patch that sometimes shows up when you use the poké radar. They claim that these patches will have a different-colored pokémon inside but then quickly reframe this as perhaps more rumor than fact by ending on a wistful, "I wonder if that's true?"
It was this mention of a sparkling grass patch that stuck in my mind enough (read: adhesed forever) that on the random day in 2008 when I was stunned by the appearance of one -- at an incredibly low chain, before I even knew what chaining was -- I was able to make the connection and understand what I was seeing. But from that point on, all of my knowledge about chaining, shiny or otherwise, came from the fan sites, LiveJournal posts, and YouTube videos I found when I started searching the internet to see if other people had experienced this phenomenon too.
And just to fully set the scene here, the only -- only -- footage of an actual shiny patch I was aware of in those days was this two-second YouTube video. There were no gifs or other screenshots to reference anywhere. Eventually more videos would follow from folks setting up their digital cameras or DV camcorders to film over their shoulders, but for a few years the shiny Pokémon LiveJournal community I'd joined had to live with the ongoing subdermal dread of, "Even if I do this whole laborious process right and it actually works, what if a shiny patch happens and I don't recognize it?" If you'd never seen one in your game before, how could you be sure you'd know?
So of course now that we have Nintendo DS capture devices, I'm obsessed with making these.
Fan-made written guides for shiny chaining did exist by the time I was looking into things in 2010, and I specifically remember using an earlier version of this Smogon University guide to wrap my head around the process. But I would love to know the story behind the folks who originally dug through the game's code and pulled out this information, because I just can't get over how a game mechanic this robust -- robust enough to be its own minigame with its own custom animations and BGM tune, which directly and secretly affected shiny odds -- was barely explained in any official capacity at the time.
I cracked open my Pearl and Platinum manuals and my Diamond/Pearl Official Prima Game Guide Volume 1 just to make sure there wasn't something about chaining in either place that I'd somehow overlooked. Not only is there not, but there is no mention of the poké radar at all, and the Game Guide doesn't include the Trainer Counter app in its pokétch section. I suppose this makes some amount of sense since the poké radar isn't given to you until you've finished the main storyline, but still. Pretty interesting.
The pokétch pages in the Prima Game Guide Volume 1.
That said, I can't speak to what is or isn't in the Prima Game Guide Volume 2. I should grab a copy for research purposes. 😄 And I will also note that in Platinum, which came out two years after Diamond and Pearl, Lucas or Dawn will give you a short demonstration of how to use the poké radar... but they really don't give you any new information beyond what was already said in Diamond and Pearl. They certainly don’t mention a relationship between chain numbers and shiny odds. They just spell out the process a little more clearly, show you some actual rustling grass, and suggest that you buy some repels. Helpful, yes. But still barely scratching the surface!
So now what about you? When and how did you learn about shiny chaining? What were your experiences with the poké radar in gen IV? Was there some official information out there that I missed back in the day? Replies are welcomed!
Footage recorded via Nintendo DS Capture Board, edited with ScreenToGif.

American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis – Thoughts
“… and though I can hide my cold gaze and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable: I simply am not there.”
First of all, this is one huge book. I was skeptical of whether I should really even pick this up, will this put me in another reading slump and yada yada. Surprisingly, I managed to finish it in a very short time. The narration style and dialogues are something I found to be absolutely hilarious. Bret Easton is very crafty with the dialogues he constructs and I don’t understand how he comes up with such elaborate and funny conversations. Honestly, I’d research a little bit more about the book and the writer but there is no network in my country as I’m writing this. So yeah, giving it to you raw.
Can I talk about the movie first? I’ll talk about the movie first. I love Christian Bale. He’s one of my favorite actors, a master at his craft and worthy of respect for his diverse set of roles. His dedication to play a role is unmatched. He starred as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho and I’m glad I watched the movie first. The book is written in first person narrated by our P&P executive, working in murders and executions, Patrick Bateman. And every time I imagine a scenery with this guy, pop, it’s Christian Bale’s goofy ass acting popping up in my head and I absolutely love it. Somebody said while working with Bale that during the shoot of the film, he thought that Bale was deliberately acting horrible. He couldn’t understand why and when the movie came out, his doubts were gone. He seemed like the perfect sociopath, trying his best to fit in while being absolutely horrible at it. His deliberate bad acting just made the character Bateman come to life. It was bad acting to the point it was amazing acting. I don’t know, 10/10 for Christian Bale.
Let’s start off with the contents of the book. The book is a series of narration of the events happening in Bateman’s life and his mind by Bateman himself. There are often whole chapters dedicated to Bateman naming designer and luxury brands, describing popular music bands and their history and what their songs mean, there was even a whole chapter dedicated to his panic attacks; considering he is always high on Xanax, Velium or some other drug. Pages and pages worth of creative and witty dialogue, callbacks or just the total unhinged way of how Patrick treats everyone else when he is on bloodthirst mode. So much to highlight. So much to highlight, cause all of it is just so funny. Something like- “What is this continuing inability you have to evaluate this situation rationally?” when Patrick is being harassed by his fellow gay co-worker(who thinks Patrick loves him cause that one time he was trying to strangle him but dude thought wow Patricks in love with me) is just comedic. Or something like – “Patrick, why aren’t you looking at me?” “I’m ignoring you, Luis.” Just makes me laugh out loud. And of course, the movie. Lines from the movie written out in the book and you’re just sitting there Leonardo DiCaprio-ing all over. “He said the thing.”
All jokes aside, it was also a very clever critique of the free market. All the characters are extremely self-centered to the point of obsessive narcissism, where Pat just takes it up a notch. I don’t need to describe some of the scenes from the movie or the book because I can’t. It’s just not possible, the things Bret writes in the book, to put in a review. If you do wanna see an uncensored review, do pull up your Platinum AmEx card and sign up for my patron, where you’ll find exclusive content. Seriously, if you don’t have a Platinum AmEx card you might as well just be gutter garbage. Did I tell you that Patrick just gave me a face care routine that’ll set me back thousands of dollars but it’ll make me feel, quote, “I feel like shit but look great”?
Overall, my thoughts are all over the place and there’s nothing in particular I want to say about this book. It’s just the day to day life of a psychopath who commits heinous and gorey acts of crime, murder and what not. The book is basically him trying to fit in society while also maintaining his bloodlust. The lines “My nightly bloodlust overflowed into my days and I had to leave the city. My mask of sanity was a victim of impending slippage” sums up the book pretty well. He doesn’t necessarily leave the city all the time but rather he leaves his “I work in finance” façade behind and goes full on Ted Bundy all over the city. Graphic and gorey descriptions of his murder, torture, assault is just horrifying to even imagine. The very fact that someone thought all of this and put it in a book is gut-wrenching alone but let’s just say that the book tries to put some heartfelt moments too. Sentences like “I just want to be loved” are spoken out loud by Patrick after he, pretty graphically, cooks a part of a human body for his dinner. Words are written but not said out loud when Patrick feels love from someone. Genuine, heartfelt love that doesn’t want fame or money or anything else from Patrick, unlike every other girl he has slept with. “yet she weakens me, it’s almost as if she’s making the decision about who I am, and in my own stubborn, willful way I can admit to feeling a pang, something tightening inside, and before I can stop it I find myself almost dazzled and moved that I might have the capacity to accept, though not return, her love.” A slight attempt at humanizing a monster, I’d say. Not very successful. And I found it funny that even until the end of the book, I couldn’t tell most characters apart from one another. Just like in the movie, and I think the movie captured that essence pretty well.
Most of what you can know about the story is summed up pretty well in the movie, except that the book delves into much more comedy and, of course, gore. The movie ends at a better note in my opinion, simply because the part where the movie ends is just one of the few final chapters of the book. The movie couldn’t have done well with what the book offered as its ending and well done to the script writers for that. The book is hilarious, graphic and just a really funny mockery of materialism. It’s definitely worth a read but it does drag on without a proper goal or anything. But did I still enjoy it a lot? Yes, I did. 8/10. Hilarious and witty.
Now you know what to do when life is getting you down. Just tell yourself “You’ve got a negative attitude. That’s what’s stopping you. You need to get your act together.” Wise words, honestly.
Big ideas, guy stuff, boy meets the world, boy gets it.

sebek for the character ask game! (if he's already sent in, then maybe epel? i assume diasomnia might be sent a lot...)
for this ask meme!
one aspect about them i love
I love that he is so open with his emotions. If he loves something, you'll know, if he's happy or sad or worried or excited, you'll know. Although I do consider myself one of those Diasofam oshi who doesn't quite like him as much as mal/silver/lilia, I do strongly feel his character is essential in making their quartet work. Where the other three can be so guarded with their emotions, Sebek's openness and his straightforwardness provides a much needed balance to their dynamic.
one aspect i wish more people understood about them
That his animosity towards humans and his general priggishness is something he learned from the adults around him growing up, that his unsureness in his mixed identity is unfortunately an all-too common experience for us mixed folk, and that he still has so much room and time to grow and change for the better!! We are witnessing him as he is just now starting to understand who he is and what he wants to make of his life, and I find it egregious to harshly judge a child for exhibiting behaviors that for the past sixteen years of his life he was told were okay.
one (or more) headcanon(s) i have about this character
He is autistic!!
2. His familiar is a white horse named Major, twisted from Maximus from Tangled! Major is just as obsessed about Waka-Sama as Sebby is, and Seb decorated his stall with lots of framed portraits of Malleus. On rainy days when equestrian club is cancelled, Seb will still go to visit him and they will curl up under a blanket and read together from a book on Waka-Sama and Sir Lilia’s greatest exploits while munching on apples and carrots.
one character i love seeing them interact with
I love all his interactions with Epeppy! From Epel’s school uniform vignette where Sebby was immediately wowed by Epepep’s apple carving skills, to pretty much all of the Kelkkarotu event (I think it’s called sledathon or something on EN?). I like to think Sebby has like, the tiniest, wee little crush on Epepe but he’s too dumb and shy to do anything about it so nothing ever comes of it dfkjgdkjfg
one character i wish they would interact with/interact with more
Honestly, just more first year interactions. We recently learned in Ace’s platinum b-day vignette that the first years went to karaoke together and I would love to hear more about them hanging out with each other!!
one (or more) headcanon(s) i have that involve them and one other character
Just a general HC but I think he honestly warms up to people pretty quickly despite his cockiness, and he'll def have your back no matter what once you become friends with him.

I hate that doujin about the jotakak child because my standswap star platinum name is jouta and now i have to get cursed with the knowledge of who it shares names with
i know nothing about it beyond, the name of that egg baby, the 'kakyoin did you lay this egg' and that the ladys who made it made one of my childhood fav animes (which isnt that crazy they made a lot, just makes me laugh. and being a jojo fan now and going back and being like... wow that one background character in this that is from another very gay manga is very clearly blonde kakyoin)
but they sure did that, its sooo stupid and funny i cant help i think its so so fucking hilarious i cant believe that happened and ppl let it get that big
i will not read or care about it beyond that, but i will forever be asking my friends 'did you lay this egg??' till im on my stupid ass death bed if i ever get one

Jjba Diamond is Unbreakable Ep. 8-16 Thoughts
Ep. 8-9
Yukako has so many issues god bless
I've taken a liking to her design. Her color scheme goes together well, her hair has a lot of character and I do like the rose emblem on her outfit.
Her stand, Love Deluxe, plays the prehensile hair trope straight, other than her ability to control her hair even when it is not attached to her scalp. I like the name but I find this type of stand boring to be honest.
I'm not really interested in Yukako as a character, unless she gets something more later on. The funniest thing they can do is pair her and Koichi together. "Me and my girl don't argue, she tells me to shup up and I do" and such.
Josuke and Okuyasu were nice this episode. We learn that Crazy Diamond can't bring back anything The Hand deletes. Just goes to show how opposite their powers are.
Koichi is not really my cup of tea. I appreciate him being part of the group but solo episodes with him don't really interest me. Plus his voice is incredibly grating in both sub and dub. It's interesting that he set up that rock so that Yukako wouldn't die, you gotta be really confident that you'll win if you are worrying about the safety of your opponent.
Hey, Koichi with the new hair kinda looks like... No I shan't say it.
Let's talk about Echoes. My boy. My lil man. Look at his lil smile :) My favourite stand from part 4 so far. It seems to emote on its own sometimes, like Star Platinum who smiles every time it gets a chance to beat someone up. I like it when stands emote on their own. The fanworks do this a lot but jjba itself rarely does it. Which is a shame.
Ep. 10
This is just 20 minutes of Okuyasu having nice things happen to him and I think that's just great. If I had so say my one gripe (and be a killjoy), it would be that it doesn't tell us much about Okuyasu and Josuke that we don't already know. The best thing about filler is that it gives us characterization and I don't think this episode has enough of that.
Okuyasu and Josuke fighting reminded me of the Death 13 episode except Polnareff was infinitely more stubborn
Also this is a great time to just give the VAs the biggest shout out cuz wow I love them. Especially Okuyasu I love the way he says Josuke. It brings me joy. They are perfect fits for the characters they are playing. I can hear Tonio's accent but I know fuck all about Japanese so It might be horrible, not my problem tho.
Ep 11 - 12
I think Tomoko is one of my favourite female Jojo characters so far. The bar is on the ground, but, you know. Take what you can get.
I don't get why they added that scene with Josuke at the start. It doesn't really add anything.
I think the funniest thing in episode 11 is Koichi and Okuyasu just going through it and the Jojos not giving a shit. I hate the Joestars so much it's unreal. It did struck me as a bit weird. It's not at all weird for Jotaro (Have you seen the stardust crusaders? They told Polnareff they lied about Avdol's death to him and then they had the audacity to go "I didn't think you'd be this hurt"), It does feel a bit off for Josuke though.
Jotaro smiling as he says Jospeh could die is amazing. Of course he would.
I didn't think about what Red Hor Chili Pepper's stand user would look like but I am definitely not dissapointed in Akira. Personality wise he is insanely boring but I do like his design.
Okuyasu looking at his own hand as he thanks Koichi was a nice touch.
I like how they handled Joseph. Obviously Josuke is not gonna be amazed to see him but It wouldn't go with his personality if he was antagonistic either.
Ep 13
I don't like how different the japanese VA of Joseph sounds when he is yelling. English VA doesn't have this issue but it's also was the weakest of the sdc cast imo. No winning with this one.
Ep 14 - 15
The first episode is just set up. It does that job pretty well though. Really makes Rohan seem insane. I mean, he *is*.
Rohan relating everything to art and writing isn't even that off from how most artists think tbh. Writers will see a documentary about the most disturbing shit they have ever seen and they will go "That will make my writing about this part more accurate".
And Rohan'a advice is actually pretty good. Like, draw with references. Draw from reality. Base your characters on people who you know, instead of like, just taking from your favourite artisans. Anyways,
Rohan's stand is called the Heaven's Door. Firstly, It's a really cute stand. Secondly, this thing is busted. It'd be one thing if looking at a draft was the only way for it to work but touching you with his stand also works. And he can knock someone unconcious when unfurling them. Add on that the insane speed he has for no reason and honestly we should just be glad this guy isn't a villain. He is just weird and offputting.
I fucking love episode 15. The pay off is amazing. I love that Okuyasu and Josuke notice something small like a cut on his hand and immediately help him. I love that Rohan opens Josuke's eyes by insulting his hair. And then he just. keeps. going.
Josuke being literary so blinded by rage that he doesn't see the draft? Amazing. He absolutely destroyed that place. And threw a fucking chair at Okuyasu and Koichi. This show is pretty funny when it wants to be.
The story of his hair was really sweet. The guy helping them seems to be a student like the current day Josuke too.
Ep 16
The art style for this episode looks different from normal and I have no idea why. The style is ussually pretty consistent. You can see the gums in their teeth it's strange.
Jotaro gets a slight outfit change. I like the colors and the tilted belts. I'm not sure on the new jacket. I liked that they used the collar of his shirt to give the same vibe as his part 3 outfit insead of just giving him a jacket exactly like his old one. His new jacket is a bit dissapointing. I like dolphins. I'm not sure what they were trying to do with the triangle and the sun. Overall, I like the older one just a bit more. I would love it if he kept changing outfits like this tho.
It's something that Jotaro can't seem to seperate Star Platinum's time stop ability from Dio. Like, that's Star Platinum's power.
As funny as seeing Jotaro get his ass beat by a Twitch looking ass rat is, It's also shows what I like about stands. I know Jotaro is holding back here, but that doesn't change the fact that this is a bad machup for him. So you don't need to nerf him in ordert to create conflict. Stands are good against combatting power creep, is what I'm saying.
Love Crazy Diamond popping up out of nowhere just to look sad. Don't look at me with them big ol' eyes.
Ep. 17
I think one thing part 4 is good at is the character dynamics. Rohan and Koichi was fun to watch. Rohan grinning at Koichi getting flustered was great. Reimi being really friendly with Rohan cuz she knew him when he was a kid is a nice bit of writing.
I made a joke post about where Kak went after death, a few people mentioned how ghosts were real and he could be like Reimi. Now I know what they are talking about.
Reimi has a nice design. Especially the choker with the hands holding on it. Speaking of hands
I know I shouldn't be laughing at the guy whose only trait so far is that he kills young girls to date their hands to satisfy his stupid fetish or something but
what even is that music. Why did they make it like that.
To close this off, I am currently on vacation with little internet access. It's a rural area so there isn't much to do. I've been spending my time writing these, slowly. Gonna take a hot minute to finish this part.
I've been also wondering if I should watch Stone Ocean before Golden Wind and get the Jotaro story over with. I'll decide that later, I dunno.
